[발표자 소개] 


Timothy Atkinson first came to Korea in 1974 with the US military. He returned to the US in 1977 and completed Bachelor's a degree in Korean Studies program at U.C. Berkeley in 1981. Returning to Korea that year, he worked at Samsung for seven years and then served as managing director of a consulting firm that provided translation and training services from 1989-1996. Since then he has worked as a free-lance translator and has been teaching Korean-to-English Translation at Seoul University of Foreign Studies since January 2004. He completed the course work for M.A Degree in Asian Studies at Sejong University. Currently he is on the team that is translating the Joseon Sillok.

[발표 요지]

The lecture will touch building teams for translating Korean classics as well as on creating the database to support such efforts. Tim will touch on various issues faced in translating the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty(Sillok) from literary Chinese to English as well as translating books and articles written in Korean on historical and cultural topics.
